Common mistakes in home blood pressure measurements

Most everyday mistakes are not related to the breakdown of the device, but to haste, conversation, cuff, posture and selective saving of results.

The short answer

Check the procedure using the checklist and instructions for a specific model, and resolve questions about the accuracy of the device through comparison and service.

A worked example

In a teaching check, the monitor displays a technical code rather than a pressure value. The user looks it up in the manual, checks the connection and cuff as instructed, and does not enter 0/0. Another situation is a numerical reading taken while talking: retain it with a note instead of automatically calling the monitor faulty. The first concerns device operation, the second technique. A diary records the circumstances but does not test or certify equipment.

What to do

  1. 01

Inspect the cuff and device power supply.

  2. 02

Check your procedure with the manufacturer's manual.

  3. 03

Carry out several scheduled measurements without changing conditions.

  4. 04

Take the device to your appointment if the doctor suggests a comparison.

Common mistakes

  • Test the device on another person and consider the difference a malfunction.
  • Use a damaged or incorrect cuff.
  • Calibrate the device yourself without the manufacturer's procedure.

Identify the error type before changing the record

A device code, a measurement-technique concern and a typing error are different problems. Check technical messages in the model’s documentation; recurring issues may require the manufacturer or service support. Correct a verified transcription error against the original reading. Do not delete a genuine number merely because it is unexpected. Vesometr does not connect to or calibrate a monitor. If accuracy or operation is uncertain, discuss the issue with a professional and bring the device and records. Clearing a code does not determine whether medical help is needed.

How to check the result

  • A technical code is not entered as pressure.
  • A corrected typing error matches the original result.
  • An unexpected number is not labelled a device fault without checking.

How this works in Vesometr

Vesometr is only responsible for the log and does not check the tonometer; information about device changes should be kept in notes.

Sources and fact checking

App features were checked against Vesometr 1.2.2. External sources explain general guidance, rather than validating individual medical conclusions.

Limits of self-observation

Vesometr does not assess the danger of a reading or prescribe treatment. Sudden worsening, chest pain, severe shortness of breath, speech difficulty, limb weakness or another acute symptom calls for urgent medical care rather than another app entry.
