Decide what one entry represents: a single cigarette or several cigarettes within a stated interval. Do not silently mix those methods.
A worked example
Worked example, using fictional data. Someone smokes one cigarette at 08:10 and two during a break from 11:00 to 11:30. They save two entries: “1, 08:10, after breakfast” and “2, 11:30, break 11:00–11:30”. The morning total is three cigarettes, not three individually timed events measured by the app. Adding an evening entry of “7 for the day” would count those three again unless the earlier entries were corrected. The record describes consumption; it does not measure dependence.
What to do
- 01
Choose a recording method and write down the rule.
- 02
Save the count, actual time and a short comment after an episode.
- 03
For grouped cigarettes, put the interval in the comment.
- 04
Review the day for duplicate counting.
Common mistakes
- Underestimate the amount for a beautiful result.
- Restore all day only in the evening.
- Consider one difficult day as a research failure.
Define one entry before reviewing totals
A daily total is interpretable only when you know how it was assembled. For an individual episode, the timestamp describes the event; for a daily summary, it might describe only when the entry was made. If you could not use your phone at the time, give an interval and say the count was recalled later. Do not add a whole-day total on top of the same episodes. Edit an existing entry or add only the missing cigarettes. Use ordinary words in the comment: Vesometr does not classify triggers or certify that a day is complete.
How to check the result
- The daily count equals the sum of the recorded episodes.
- Grouped entries state their time interval.
- Recalled estimates are identified.
- No episode appears in both an individual entry and a daily summary.
Once the counting rule is consistent, use recurring smoking situations to explore the comments without changing the original counts.
How this works in Vesometr
A smoking entry contains count, pack price, pack size, currency, date, time and a comment. There is no separate tagging system.
Sources and fact checking
App features were checked against Vesometr 1.2.2. External sources explain general guidance, rather than validating individual medical conclusions.
- Vesometr 1.2.2: official APK — Identifies the release covered by this guide; fields were also checked against the release source code.
- Australian Government: Know your triggers — Supports recording time, situation, feelings and craving strength as separate observations.

Habit journal
Quantity, historical pack price, expenses and trends across periods.
The materials do not replace medical care for nicotine addiction. If changing a habit on your own is difficult, discuss evidence-based support with a specialist.
