Shorten your personal text template, not the app fields: a food entry already contains only type, description, date and time. Retain information you actually revisit.
A worked example
Worked example, using fictional records. For three days, someone records ingredients, dishes and circumstances in detail, then misses four days. Reviewing the entries reveals they use only time and the food name. The new template becomes “lunch, soup and bread, 13:15”. The next week has six known days and one honest gap. It now answers the original routine question more completely despite using less text. This does not prove the diet improved or establish that everyone should keep a food diary.
What to do
- 01
State your goal in one sentence.
- 02
Select a minimal post template.
- 03
Tie it to the end of a meal or clearing away the dishes.
- 04
Conduct a short review once a week and keep the format simple.
Common mistakes
- Start with perfect detail.
- Punish yourself with additional entries.
- Continue to collect data that is not used in any way.
Simplify according to what you actually use
Open a few older entries and identify which details helped answer your question. Other details need not appear in later text unless a professional specifically requested them. Choose a convenient recording moment while checking the actual eating time. After a gap, continue with a known event instead of recreating an ideal past week. If tracking becomes intrusive or distressing, discuss its purpose and format with a professional rather than enforcing discipline at any cost. Usefulness depends on an understandable answer and manageable effort, not the length of a recording streak.
How to check the result
- The diary has one stated question.
- Each retained detail is used during review.
- No invented entries were added after a gap.
- The short format preserves actual dates and times.
For a shorter template, start with the basic food-diary format and add detail only when needed.
How this works in Vesometr
Use a short personal template inside the food description. There are no dedicated calorie, portion or hunger fields to add or remove.
Sources and fact checking
App features were checked against Vesometr 1.2.2. External sources explain general guidance, rather than validating individual medical conclusions.
- Vesometr 1.2.2: official APK — Identifies the release; fields and export limits were also checked against its source code.

Simple meal journal
Breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack with a description, date and time.
In case of eating disorders, severe dietary restrictions, allergic reactions or a therapeutic diet, it is better to coordinate the observation plan with a specialist.
