How to prepare a food diary for a doctor or nutritionist

The specialist needs a period appropriate to the question, with an honest description of usual and unusual days and an up-to-date list of medications.

The short answer

Agree the dates, detail and sharing format with the professional first. Vesometr food entries are not exported in the blood-pressure PDF.

A worked example

Worked example, using a fictional request. A professional asks for three specified days of food records and the onset times of a complaint. Meal descriptions are in the food section; the symptom is in the free-text journal. The person checks dates and transfers the requested lines into a separate extract, labelling approximate portions. The blood-pressure PDF cannot fulfil this request because it contains neither food entries nor the free-text note. The outcome is a readable agreed record. Sending the full JSON backup instead would expose unrelated history.

What to do

  1. 01

Agree the question, period and information needed.

  2. 02

Review food entries manually by date.

  3. 03

Prepare a separate readable extract or the agreed diary form.

  4. 04

Share only the requested information through the agreed channel.

Common mistakes

  • Change your diet specifically for the sake of a beautiful report.
  • Remove weekends and holidays.
  • Send the full archive via an open link.

Agree the format before sharing

Ask which information is needed: time, ingredients, amount or a particular sensation. This avoids collecting and sharing unnecessary details. Before making an extract, check whether late recording times obscure different event dates. Keep medical interpretations out of factual columns. If the professional provides a form, transfer only agreed information and label unknowns. Choose a channel with an identifiable recipient. A full JSON backup contains other sections and exists to restore the app. It does not replace a readable food diary and should not be sent by default simply because it is available.

How to check the result

  • The requested period and format are agreed.
  • The extract contains food rather than an unrelated BP PDF.
  • Approximate portions and times are labelled.
  • The full JSON was not sent instead of the requested lines.

How this works in Vesometr

Vesometr’s PDF does not contain food or free-text journal entries. Show food records in the app or prepare a separate extract. JSON restores the database and is not a clinician-friendly food report.

Sources and fact checking

App features were checked against Vesometr 1.2.2. External sources explain general guidance, rather than validating individual medical conclusions.

Limits of self-observation

In case of eating disorders, severe dietary restrictions, allergic reactions or a therapeutic diet, it is better to coordinate the observation plan with a specialist.
